Description
Senior Java / Automation Engineer (Dynamic Configuration & Cloud Deployments)
Experience Level: 6–10+ years
Location: Pan India Virtusa
Employment Type: Full-time
Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Java Engineer with expertise in automation, configuration
management, and basic cloud operations to join our engineering team.
In this role, you will take full ownership of building Java applications driven by dynamic
configuration, automating configuration deployments with Ansible, and ensuring these
applications run reliably in cloud environments. You should be a self-starter who can pull
code from repositories, trigger and monitor CI/CD pipelines, debug deployment issues, and
trace exceptions directly on live instances.
Key Responsibilities
Java Development & Architecture: Design, build, and maintain core Java
applications with a strong focus on runtime configurability and dynamic configuration
handling.
Configuration Management: Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and roles to
automate the delivery, verification, and updates of application configurations across
environments.
Pipeline Execution & Ownership: Take code from source control repositories,
trigger CI/CD deployment pipelines, verify deployment health, and ensure builds are
deployed end-to-end.
Cloud Operations & Debugging: Deploy applications to cloud environments (e.g.,
AWS EC2), initiate sessions (SSH / Session Manager), inspect application/system
logs, trace stack traces/exceptions, and remediate runtime issues.
End-to-End Reliability: Validate that configurations are accurately applied and that
services stay stable, secure, and operational post-deployment.
Collaboration & Maintenance: Support occasional frontend integrations, interface
with cross-functional teams, and document deployment workflows.
Qualifications & Requirements
Primary / Must-Have
8–10+ years of hands-on software development experience with core Java (Java
8/11/17+), including design patterns, multithreading, and RESTful architectures.
Proven experience building applications that rely on dynamic external
configuration management (e.g., dynamic properties, configuration servers,
environment-based profiles).
Solid, hands-on experience using Ansible for automation, configuration rollout, and
server provisioning.
Proficiency with Git workflows (branching, merging, managing pull requests) and
triggering/monitoring CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
Strong independent troubleshooting skills: comfortable working with Linux/Unix
command-line tools to monitor processes, analyze logs, and resolve runtime issues.
Secondary / Nice-to-Have
Cloud Infrastructure (AWS preferred):
o Basic hands-on familiarity with virtual servers (e.g., Amazon EC2).
o Ability to open remote sessions (AWS Systems Manager Session Manager or
SSH), verify instance status, check disk/memory usage, and troubleshoot
environment variables.
o Experience locating system/application logs in cloud environments and
diagnosing exceptions or connection failures.
Frontend: Basic familiarity with Vue.js or modern JavaScript frameworks (to assist
with minor UI updates or full-stack troubleshooting) is a plus.
Core Competencies
Self-Driven: High degree of autonomy; capable of taking a feature or deployment
task from repository checkout through pipeline trigger to stable production run.
Root-Cause Problem Solver: Adept at tracing runtime failures across the Java
runtime, Ansible configs, and host environment.
Reliability Focus: Attentive to configuration consistency, rollbacks, and operational
uptime.`
