Brown Brothers Harriman is seeking a Java Developer to join our IDS Systems team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable business-critical applications that support key operational and client-facing functions across the firm.


You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including product owners, architects, and engineers to build reliable, high-performing distributed systems. This role requires strong technical problem-solving skills, a commitment to engineering quality, and the ability to contribute to architecture discussions and technical decision-making.


This position is well suited for an engineer who enjoys building robust backend systems, improving platform reliability, and contributing to modern software development practices in a highly collaborative environment.

In our team, you will be responsible for:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable Java-based applications and services.

  • Building and enhancing distributed systems and microservice-based solutions.

  • Writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices.

  • Developing automated tests and supporting CI/CD processes.

  • Participating in code reviews and driving continuous improvement in software quality.

  • Collaborating with engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver technical solutions.

  • Contributing to architecture and design discussions.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to performance, scalability, reliability, and security.

  • Supporting deployment automation and development workflow improvements.

  • Monitoring and resolving production issues using logs, metrics, and monitoring tools.

What we're looking for:

  • 1+ Java experience, Spring Framework and Spring Boot.

  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles, OOP, and design patterns.

  • Experience with SQL and relational databases.

  • Experience working with distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.

  • Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD practices.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
