Summary
Senior Java developer enhancing and supporting mature payment platforms: core Java/Spring Boot development, production incident response, root-cause analysis, and full SDLC delivery ownership, including mentoring and rotating 24/7 standby. Key tech: Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, Hibernate, SQL, Oracle.
You will join a mature product environment where long-standing payment platforms are being actively enhanced, supported and modernised. The work is a blend of core Java development, production-grade problem solving, system improvement, incident response and delivery ownership.
The successful candidate will not only write code. They will analyze requirements, design solutions, contribute to architectural and technical decisions, support 24/7 systems when on standby, mentor junior developers and take responsibility for delivering changes through the full SDLC.
Profile for success
- Demonstrated senior-level Java development experience with evidence of end-to-end delivery ownership, not only assigned coding tasks.
- Strong hands‑on experience with Java / J2EE / Java EE, Spring Boot, Hibernate, SQL and enterprise application development.
- Practical exposure to production support, incident response, root‑cause analysis and systems that require high availability.
- Experience with Oracle databases, application servers, build/deployment tooling and modern source control.
- Comfortable working in a hybrid model in Johannesburg, with mandatory office days and additional in‑office attendance when required.
- Willingness to participate in rotating standby for 24/7 applications.
- Finance, banking, payments, high‑volume transaction processing or regulated technology experience will be advantageous.
- IT Diploma or relevant degree considered. Degree preferred, but strong diploma candidates with clear evidence of seniority should still be considered.
