Java Spring Boot Backend Developer

Build and maintain Java Spring Boot RESTful APIs with message queues, caching, and transaction-safe financial data handling as part of a dedicated project team deployed to client sites.

What you'll be working on:
- Building and maintaining RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot
- Working with message queues (Kafka or similar) to decouple services and handle traffic spikes
- Implementing retry logic with backoff, and dead-letter queue handling for failed messages
- Writing transaction-safe code for financial data, including row-level locking and atomic updates to prevent race conditions
- Applying idempotency patterns to prevent duplicate processing
- Following data handling standards for sensitive financial information, including safe logging practices
- Working with caching patterns (cache-aside) to improve performance at scale
What we're looking for:
- Solid hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot in production
- Real understanding of distributed systems concepts: queues, retries, DLQs, idempotency, not just familiarity with the terms
- Comfort with relational databases and transaction management
- Ability to write clean, working code under time pressure, not just explain concepts
- Hands-on experience with AWS (e.g. EC2, S3, API Gateway) is a plus
