Field Heavy Equipment Technician
SUMMARY
As a Field Heavy Equipment Technician for Southwest JCB, you will be an integral service department member in a customer-facing position. The position’s primary focus is to perform quality preventative maintenance activities, diagnose and troubleshoot assigned equipment to determine if field repairs or shop repairs are appropriate, and complete field repairs through the teardown and reassembly of major systems, along with component and part replacement, all while providing the highest level of customer service and satisfaction. The field service technician will diagnose and repair JCB and non-JCB equipment in the field, whether at customer facilities or job sites, with a focus on clear communication of resolutions and completing all required internal documentation. In addition, the field service technician will at times work in a shop environment to perform various inspections, prepare new machines, install attachments on machines, and move machines in the yard. JCB North America offers various machine-specific online prerequisite modules and both virtual and in-person training opportunities that field service technicians are expected to complete to advance their skill sets, pay scale, and careers with Southwest JCB.
Responsibilities:

- Work out of a field service truck in various environmental conditions on various JCB and non-JCB machines as assigned
- Troubleshoot machines & systems assigned for completion to verify condition, failure mode, and recommended repairs, trace problems to root cause
- Diagnose and repair equipment and components, including fuel systems, hydraulic systems, aftertreatment systems, electrical systems, drive trains, transmissions, and diesel engines
- Properly request the required parts to get the repair fixed the first time correctly
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on JCB equipment in a field environment as directed, following outlined procedures and completion of proper documentation
- Using company-provided hardware, properly document various processes for compliance with JCBNA warranty, best practices, and SWJCB workflows
- Complete Tech Web inquiries with JCBNA tech support, use OEM-specific tooling or diagnostic platforms, and all other resources to complete assigned work
- Communicate the progress of repairs with the Service Manager and the customer to ensure top customer satisfaction.
- At times, provide in-person or over-the-phone walk-throughs and descriptions of problems to customers
- Use of company vehicles and special tooling properly, including maintaining all company-owned assets in a clean and safe manner
- Become proficient with all electronic systems, portals, tooling, and diagnostic resources to be effective in the role
- Complete all paperwork promptly, including work orders, parts orders, timecards, etc.
- Account for 75% or greater time on duty against work orders or warranty claims
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures
- Other duties and projects assigned by direct management
