Junior Design System Designer
Summary
Contract design system designer role at TEKsystems: you build and maintain a scalable design system in Figma — creating and QA-ing components, variants, design tokens, and documentation — and partner with designers and developers on adoption, governance, and consistent digital experiences across web and mobile.
Description
As a Design System Designer, you will help build and evolve a scalable design system that supports digital products and experiences across web, mobile, and emerging platforms. Working closely with design, development, and cross-functional teams, you will contribute to the creation, maintenance, documentation, and quality assurance of a comprehensive component ecosystem.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys systems thinking, component design, documentation, and creating reusable assets that enable teams to work more efficiently and consistently.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with design system team members to build, maintain, and evolve the organization's design system.
- Create, update, QA, and manage components, patterns, design tokens, and layout systems within Figma.
- Produce and maintain documentation for components, including usage guidance, behaviors, accessibility considerations, and implementation requirements.
- Partner with designers and developers to support design system adoption and address component-related questions.
- Contribute to design system governance, helping ensure consistency and quality across products and experiences.
- Support the implementation of scalable design solutions across digital platforms.
- Assist in defining reusable design assets that improve efficiency and accelerate product delivery.
- Work with team members and stakeholders to continuously improve design system processes, documentation standards, and workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Graphic Design, Visual Design, Interaction Design, Product Design, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of professional experience in UI design, design systems, product design, UX design, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience building, maintaining, updating, or governing Figma component libraries.
- Strong portfolio showcasing design system contributions, component work, documentation, and systems-thinking capabilities.
- Advanced proficiency with Figma, including components, variants, libraries, design tokens, and documentation workflows.
- Experience creating clear documentation, specifications, and usage guidelines for design systems.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across design and engineering teams.
- Understanding of accessibility standards, inclusive design principles, and scalable design patterns.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Warren, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
