The Role

Crafty is seeking a Junior Service Technician to join our Chicago market operations team, reporting to our Equipment & Service Manager. This is a full-time, on-site role, requiring availability Monday through Friday, with travel to client offices within the Chicago Market.


What will be expected from you:

  • Training Videos: Employees will be provided with a variety of videos and manuals to review. These materials will facilitate an understanding of the equipment's functionality.
  • Customer Interaction: Employees will communicate clearly with customers, explaining diagnoses and repairs to ensure they are informed and satisfied.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Employees will perform preventative maintenance on customers' equipment to help keep it working properly and to avoid downtime.
  • Installation: Employees will assist with the installation of large or heavy equipment, ensuring seamless operation from the outset.
  • Service Calls: Employees will conduct on-location service calls, delivering professional and personable service.
  • Inventory: Employees will maintain a proper inventory of parts and filters in their service vehicles to enable first-visit repairs for clients.

Ideal Experience:

  • Background knowledge of electrical circuits and plumbing is preferred.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and a strong customer focus.
  • A valid driver's license with no infractions is required for local service appointments.
  • A curious mindset and a strong desire to learn and develop professionally.
  • Adaptability and problem-solving abilities to address diverse challenges and provide effective solutions.

Role Goals"

  • Goal #1 — On-the-Job Training & Probationary Evaluation: During the initial 45-day probationary period, the Junior Service Technician will shadow a Service Technician and receive hands-on training in equipment servicing, troubleshooting, safety procedures, and client interactions. The assigned Service Technician will evaluate the employee's technical performance, client interactions, reliability, and ability to follow Crafty processes. Successful completion of the probationary period and a favorable evaluation are required to progress toward independent work.
  • Goal #2 — Training & Certification Completion: During the first three months, the Junior Service Technician will complete one assigned training course per week, including all required training videos, assessments, and corresponding certifications. Completion will be verified through training records. Successful and timely completion of required training is necessary to progress toward independent service work.
  • Goal #3 — First-Visit Fix Rate: The Junior Service Technician will work toward maintaining a first-visit fix rate of 90% or above, as measured through Tableau, demonstrating the technical proficiency and troubleshooting skills required to progress to a Regular Service Technician. Performance will be reviewed monthly, with consideration given to the employee's progression throughout the training and ramp period.

Our compensation amount for this role is $21 to $24 per hour. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including cost of living based on location, candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
