Junior IT Software Engineer

Valco Melton is seeking an entry-level Junior IT Software Engineer to join the IT team at our corporate headquarters in Cincinnati. The Junior IT Software Engineer develops, enhances, and supports software applications and technology solutions used across the organization. This role works with the IT Software Engineer and other IT team members and business users to develop solutions that support business operations, including ERP development, internal applications, integrations, automation, and other tools.

The role participates throughout the software development lifecycle while building technical knowledge and experience across the company’s business systems, development tools, and technologies.

This is an on-site position based at the Valco Melton world headquarters in Cincinnati.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develops, tests, implements, and maintains internal software applications and business solutions under the guidance of more experienced IT team members.
• Supports the development and enhancement of ERP functionality, applications, interfaces, integrations, reporting, and related business processes.
• Develops full-stack applications using technologies such as React.js, Node.js, and related frameworks and tools.
• Assists with modernizing legacy applications and architectures to improve performance, usability, scalability, and integration with enterprise systems.
• Develops and supports applications and data solutions utilizing database technologies including DB2, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and MongoDB.
• Applies established software development and DevOps practices, including source control, testing, CI/CD, deployment, and troubleshooting of application, integration, and performance issues.
• Works with IT team members and business stakeholders to understand requirements, resolve technical issues, and identify opportunities to improve applications and business processes.

Required Skills / Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Prior experience in software development, application development, or a related technical field. Relevant internships, academic projects, or other hands-on development experience will be considered.
• Knowledge of full-stack development technologies such as React.js, Node.js, JavaScript, APIs, and related development and integration tools.
• Familiarity with relational or NoSQL databases and SQL; experience with DB2, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or MongoDB is preferred.
• Familiarity with software development and DevOps practices, including source control, testing, CI/CD, deployment, and application troubleshooting.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with an ability to learn business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Ability and willingness to learn new technologies, accept technical guidance, manage assigned priorities, and work effectively with technical and non-technical team members.
• Familiarity with generative AI technologies, large language models, RAG, vector-based information retrieval, or AI-enabled application development (preferred).
