About the Role

● August Energy is seeking a Junior Legal Counsel to join our growing legal team supporting Generation (Renewable Energy) and Integrated Utilities-as-a-Service operations across India and Southeast Asia.

● This is a hands-on, execution-focused role suited to an early-career lawyer looking to build broad experience across the full project lifecycle — from development through financing, construction and operations — in a fast-growing, cross-border platform.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Contract Drafting and Negotiation

● Draft and review routine commercial and project contracts — including NDAs, vendor and procurement agreements, land documents, and ancillary project agreements.

● Support negotiation of PPAs, EPC/O&M and other project contracts, and assist with M&A and financing due diligence, including data room management and diligence summaries.

Project Development and Business Support

● Provide day-to-day legal support to project teams during development and execution.

● Track and flag key contractual obligations, conditions precedent, and milestones across the assigned portfolio.

Regulatory Compliance

● Monitor regulatory developments in the energy and infrastructure sectors and prepare summaries for the wider legal team.

Risk and Legal Advisory

● Conduct legal research on jurisdiction-specific issues and support the resolution of contentious matters.

● Assist in briefing and managing external counsel on routine and time-bound matters.

Policies and Sustainability

● Support implementation of and adherence to August Energy's policies and procedures, including anti-bribery and corruption (ABC), sanctions compliance, environmental and social governance (ESG) standards, and sustainability commitments.

Regional Coordination

● Work closely with the Legal Counsel – India & SEA, and external counsel across jurisdictions; support cross-border knowledge sharing and financing / investor relations workstreams as needed.

Job Requirement

1. 2-5 years' post-qualification experience (PQE) in corporate and commercial law, ideally with some exposure to energy, infrastructure, or project transactions.

2. Mix of law firm and/or in-house experience preferred, with an aptitude for operating independently in a commercial environment.

3. Qualified to practice law in India.

4. Strong drafting and legal research skills in English, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

5. Ability to manage multiple work streams and deadlines independently, while knowing when to escalate.

6. Willingness to travel within the region as required.

Preferred Experience

1. Direct or advisory exposure to renewable energy, EaaS, or broader infrastructure transactions.

2. Familiarity with project finance documentation and processes.

3. Working knowledge of a regional language relevant to the assigned market cluster is an advantage.
