Title: Maintenance Engineer trainee

Location: Anzio (RM), Italy

Role Summary

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for engineering, managing, and optimizing plant maintenance programs based on the Global Smart Maintenance model, while providing operational coordination of field activities. The role serves as a focal point for maintenance intelligence (predictive strategies, workflow digitization, data analysis, and continuous improvement) and, in parallel, ensures the proper execution and efficiency of interventions by planning resources and coordinating contractors.

The Engineer integrates smart sensors, Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to transform maintenance from routine tasks to condition-based and on-demand interventions, supporting Operations in implementing Autonomous Maintenance (AM) while ensuring full compliance with EHS and Quality standards.

Main Responsibilities

  • Intervention Planning and Resource/Contractor Coordination: Contribute to maintenance management by planning interventions and coordinating resources (internal and external) to ensure equipment efficiency. Act as the CP Representative in contractor management, informing contractor companies of specific risks, cooperating in identifying preventive measures, and ensuring compliance with the coordination plan.

  • Order and Purchasing Management: Ensure the correct drafting and management of Material Purchase Requests (RAM) and manage the Work Order (WO) flow leveraging company systems (SAP). Optimize the conversion rate of notifications into WOs and monitor adherence to the maintenance schedule.

  • Smart & Predictive Maintenance: Develop and deploy condition-monitoring and predictive maintenance (PdM) frameworks using IoT sensors and data analytics. Monitor asset health in real time to decrease unplanned downtime (UPDT) and maximize equipment life.

  • Digitization: Support the digitization of maintenance processes (anomaly reporting, digital checklists, SOPs, and SWIs) through digital workflow platforms interfaced with SAP-EAM.

  • Continuous Improvement (PMO): Support Planned Maintenance Optimization (PMO) initiatives using Root Cause Analysis tools (FMEA, RCA, 5-Why) and the Asset Life Cycle Health Index to improve MTBF and MTTR.

  • Support for Autonomous Maintenance (AM): Act as a technical partner for production teams, supporting the development of digital AM checklists, defining machine "base and target conditions", and facilitating progress through the 5 AM steps and FP&R standards.

  • Spare Parts Optimization and Workshop Management: Collaborate in defining spare parts strategy (ABC analysis), updating warehouse stock, and evaluating optimization opportunities (e.g., 3D printing). Ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of the mechanical workshop and related areas.

EHS and Quality: Ensure that all operations, both internal and contractor-executed, comply with Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality standards.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • UPDT (Unplanned Downtime) %

  • MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and MTTR (Mean Time To Repair)

  • % Predictive Maintenance (PdM) WOs out of total planned

  • Maintenance Schedule Attainment (%)

  • Improvement in Asset Life Cycle Health Index

  • Adherence to timelines and budgets for contractors and RAMs

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field).

  • Preferably at least 1–2 years of experience in industrial maintenance, with a strong focus on reliability (TPM / FP&R methodologies) and coordinating external contractors/resources.

  • Strong passion and natural aptitude for mechanics and the optimization of industrial plant equipment.

  • Knowledge of CMMS systems (preferably SAP-PM/EAM) and technical/purchasing document management.

  • Knowledge of predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, thermography) and IoT/data analytics is a strongly preferred requirement.

  • Problem-solving skills, planning/priority setting capabilities, and a strong safety orientation (EOHS).

  • Fluency in Italian and good knowledge of English
