Junior Mission Systems Engineer
Junior Mission Systems Engineer (f/m/d)
About Satellogic
Satellogic is a vertically integrated Earth Observation company that designs, manufactures, and operates satellite systems, delivering decision-grade insights at scale to government and commercial customers.
We build space systems end-to-end, from satellite design and manufacturing to launch and on-orbit operations, giving us the ability to deploy quickly, operate reliably, and support persistent monitoring across regions and priority areas. Our approach moves customers beyond one-off imagery toward continuous awareness and alert-driven decision-making, with flexible pathways that can evolve from managed monitoring to full satellite ownership and sovereign control.
Our technology supports a wide range of use cases across climate monitoring, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, defense and intelligence, helping organizations detect change, manage risk, and plan with confidence.
With a team distributed across five countries, Satellogic brings together expertise in satellite engineering, software development, data science, manufacturing, operations, and go-to-market. We’re a group of purpose-driven builders who value ownership, curiosity, and execution—and who work with humility, honesty, and empathy.
About the Team
The Mission Engineering and Planning Team is chartered to transform strategic goals into optimally designed and operated constellations, ensuring every fleet operates at its maximum potential. This team is an exciting and diverse group responsible for mission analysis and design, performance optimization, and the lifecycle management of the Mission Planning System.
Within the Mission Engineering and Planning domain, the team connects mission objectives, constellation design, operational constraints, and planning-system behavior. This includes system-level trade studies, mission analysis, performance modeling, and the implementation of the tools and services that support planning and decision-making across our growing constellation.
About the Position
We are looking for a Mission Systems Engineer to join our team. This role is focused on the systems side of mission engineering: translating mission goals into analyzable architectures, trade studies, simulation frameworks, and planning inputs that improve constellation performance.
This is not a purely analytical or documentation-focused systems role. The emphasis is on systems thinking applied through models, simulation, and engineering judgment, while also writing production-quality Python code that supports both mission analysis and the Mission Planning System. The role will use MBSE approaches and simulation tools to support mission analysis and design, and will also help assess optimization behavior, operational constraints, and performance bottlenecks across the planning workflow.
The role reports to the Mission Engineering and Planning Team Leader and collaborates closely with the Systems, AOCS, Flight Dynamics, and Software Development teams.
Responsibilities
- Perform mission analysis and system-level trade studies to evaluate constellation concepts, orbit strategies, operational constraints, and mission performance drivers.
- Translate mission and product needs into technical system logic, including requirements inputs, assumptions, operational concepts, planner constraints, and evaluation metrics.
- Use MBSE approaches and simulation tools to study mission architectures, capacity, latency, coverage, and other system-level behaviors.
- Help assess planner behavior and operational performance by identifying bottlenecks, understanding optimization outcomes, and helping define improvements to planning logic and mission execution.
- Develop production-quality code for analysis tooling, mission models, experiment workflows, and software components that support the planning system and mission engineering activities.
- Support cross-functional engineering work by partnering with engineers to integrate analysis results, operational logic, and new capabilities into production services and internal tools.
- Assist the rest of the team with code development by implementing new features for existing tools or performing code reviews for other members of the team
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Strong Python development skills, with the ability to write clear, maintainable, and production-ready code.
- Familiarity with mission analysis, orbital mechanics, constellation design, or system engineering methods for complex aerospace systems.
- Experience performing technical trade studies, building analytical models, or working with simulations to support engineering decisions.
- Familiarity with modern software development workflows such as Git, testing frameworks, CI/CD, and Docker.
- Excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
About You
- Systems-oriented: You enjoy connecting mission goals, subsystem constraints, operational realities, and software behavior into coherent engineering decisions.
- Analytical: You are comfortable moving between requirements, models, simulations, code, and operational evidence.
- Technically rigorous: You care about traceability, reproducibility, and high-quality engineering standards in both analysis and implementation.
- Collaborative: You enjoy cross-disciplinary teamwork and are comfortable working with both software engineers and aerospace specialists.
Location
The preferred location is Buenos Aires, Argentina, Cordoba, Argentina or Montevideo, Uruguay.
