(Junior or Mid) Data Engineer with Snowflake

Summary

Build and optimize Snowflake-based data pipelines, model data, and automate workflows to deliver reliable, secure data for analytics and reporting.

Aviva Services Excellence Centre is looking for a Snowflake Data Engineer to support our growing data engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, and optimizing scalable data pipelines using Snowflake and modern data stack tools.
  • Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver robust solutions.
  • Implementing best practices for data modelling, performance tuning, and cost‑efficient architecture in Snowflake.
  • Conducting code reviews to ensure high‑quality, maintainable, and secure data engineering solutions.
  • Ensuring data quality, reliability, and security across all stages of the data lifecycle.
  • Automating data workflows and integrating diverse data sources into the Snowflake platform.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting data pipeline issues, ensuring high availability and performance.

Qualifications

  • Approx. 1–3 years of experience in a relevant data engineering role.
  • Experience in Snowflake scripting – stored procedures (PLSQL or Python), user‑defined functions, CTEs, and window functions.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT processes and Snowflake architecture.
  • Experience with file formats such as Parquet, JSON, and YAML.
  • Understanding of Snowflake concepts: data sharing, replication, dynamic data masking, secure views, row‑access policies, tags, streams, tasks, external tables, time travel, cloning, clustering, and role‑based access control.
  • Familiarity with git operations such as branching, cloning, creating pull requests, resolving conflicts, and code review.
  • Basic principles of data structure and data modelling.
  • Knowledge of Azure DevOps and/or AWS services (AWS Glue preferred).
  • Experience with software engineering best practices: design patterns, code review, testing, and documentation.
  • Fluent English.
  • Nice to have: Knowledge of Apache Airflow, Snowpark, and DBT (Data Build Tool). Snowflake certifications are a plus.
