Quantum Leap Energy Junior Process Engineer
We are seeking a skilled Process Engineer to join our team at Quantum Leap Energy. In this role, you will play a key part in designing, optimizing, and scaling processes across the Nuclear Fuel Cycle. You will work with cutting-edge technologies to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant operations, contributing to projects that enhance energy production, reduce nuclear waste, and support next-generation reactor designs. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to innovation in the nuclear energy sector.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and documentation of process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and mass/energy balances for chemical conversion and isotope-separation processes.
- Perform process simulations using Aspen Plus, MATLAB, or similar tools under the direction of senior engineers to evaluate efficiency, yield, and selectivity.
- Support bench-scale and pilot-scale experiments; collect, organize, and perform initial analysis of experimental and production data.
- Help troubleshoot process deviations, participate in root-cause investigations, and propose basic corrective actions.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, operating procedures, safety analyses, and regulatory documentation.
- Ensure day-to-day activities comply with nuclear safety, radiation protection, and environmental requirements (training provided).
- Collaborate with R&D scientists, senior engineers, and operations personnel to integrate new technologies into existing workflows.
- Maintain accurate laboratory and simulation records in accordance with NQA-1 and internal quality standards.
- Actively participate in training programs and stay current with fundamental advancements in nuclear fuel cycle and isotope-separation technologies.
Requirements
- Washington Accord accredited Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Nuclear Engineering.
- 1-2 years of experience in process engineering, ideally within the nuclear, chemical, or energy sectors.
- Foundational knowledge of process design principles, including flow diagrams, mass/energy balances, and equipment sizing.
- Working proficiency (or demonstrated ability to quickly learn) process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, ChemCAD, or MATLAB.
- Familiarity with basic data analysis tools (Excel, Python, JMP, or similar).
- Understanding of general laboratory safety; prior exposure to chemical or radiological safety is a plus but not required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
