Discussion

Summary

A Junior QA Engineer tests physical electrical metering devices, embedded/real-time firmware, and Windows configuration software, executing and extending automated tests in an existing C# framework. The remote role requires strong electrical engineering fundamentals and involves close work with a Senior QA Engineer.

Our client is looking for a Junior QA Engineer to join a team working on electrical metering devices, embedded/real-time firmware, Windows software, and automated testing infrastructure.
The role is primarily focused on hardware, firmware, and embedded systems testing. You will work closely with a Senior QA Engineer and gain hands-on experience with physical electrical devices and automated testing.
Responsibilities:
Test physical electrical metering devices and related hardware.
Perform firmware and embedded/real-time systems testing.
Conduct functional and integration testing of Windows-based configuration software.
Execute and maintain automated tests.
Develop new tests within the existing C# testing framework.
Contribute to the improvement of the testing infrastructure.
Investigate issues across hardware, firmware, and software.
Collaborate with senior engineers and proactively communicate blockers and findings.
Must-have:
Strong fundamentals in electrical engineering/electronics — this is a key requirement.
Understanding of AC vs. DC, three-phase electricity, phase relationships, sine waves, harmonics, and basic principles of electrical metering.
Basic programming knowledge and understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
Good spoken English.
Relevant technical education in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automation, Embedded Systems, or a related field is strongly preferred.
Would be a strong plus:
Experience with QA/testing, especially in a commercial environment.
Exposure to firmware, embedded, or real-time systems.
Hardware or electronics testing experience.
Experience testing physical/electrical devices.
Knowledge of Modbus or other industrial/device communication protocols.
Experience with C#. Knowledge of Java, Python, or another OOP language is also relevant.
What We’re Looking For:
Self-motivated and proactive approach.
Curiosity and willingness to learn.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Strong communication skills and willingness to ask questions.
Ability to identify and raise blockers early rather than wait for instructions.
Motivation to grow in QA and embedded/hardware testing.
Note: Commercial QA experience is not strictly mandatory for a Junior candidate if they have strong technical education, solid electrical fundamentals, and a high willingness to learn. However, strong knowledge of electrical fundamentals is essential.
