Junior Scala Developer

Job Summary

The Junior Scala Developer will collaborate with experienced engineers to develop, test, maintain, and enhance Scala applications. This role suits fresh graduates with internship or project experience in Scala development.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software applications using Scala to meet project requirements
• Write clean, readable, and maintainable code adhering to established development standards
• Analyze, code, test, debug, and deploy software components within the development lifecycle
• Collaborate with senior developers and technical teams to understand requirements and implement effective solutions
• Perform unit testing and support integration testing to ensure software quality
• Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and technical issues promptly
• Participate in code reviews and apply version-control best practices using Git or similar systems
• Develop and consume REST APIs, integrating applications with databases and other systems
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation as needed to support development and maintenance
• Continuously enhance technical knowledge and adopt best software development practices
• Work effectively within a team environment and demonstrate willingness to learn new technologies

Required competencies and certifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
• Basic programming proficiency in Scala with understanding of object-oriented and functional programming concepts
• Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases for data integration tasks
• Familiarity with Git or other version-control systems to manage code versions
• Understanding of software development lifecycle and testing methodologies
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address technical challenges
• Good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate within teams
• Legal right to work in Singapore (Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents only)

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Exposure to Apache Spark for big data processing
• Experience with Akka for building concurrent applications
• Familiarity with Play Framework for web application development
• Knowledge of REST APIs and Microservices architecture
• Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems
• Understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud
• Awareness of CI/CD and DevOps practices for streamlined software delivery
