Junior Software Developer
Summary
Early-career developer joining Patriot Custom Metals' internal software team to build, maintain, and improve the web-based business applications that power company operations. Day-to-day work spans full-stack development with C#/.NET and SQL on the back end, HTML/CSS/JavaScript on the front end, plus debugging, code reviews, and version control.
We are seeking a motivated Junior Software Developer to join our software team and help build, maintain, and improve the web-based business applications that power our operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career developer to develop their skills in a professional production environment while working alongside experienced engineers.
You will contribute across the full stack — writing C# and SQL on the back end, building responsive user interfaces on the front end, and helping troubleshoot and enhance real applications that internal teams rely on every day. We value curiosity, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn far more than we expect you to arrive knowing everything.
Key Responsibilities
· Write, test, and maintain clean, well-documented code as part of a collaborative development team.
· Develop and enhance features across web applications using C#, .NET, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
· Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and reports against relational databases.
· Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects and user-reported issues.
· Participate in code reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback.
· Use version control to manage changes and collaborate through branches and pull requests.
· Work with senior developers to understand requirements and translate them into working software.
· Continuously learn new tools, frameworks, and best practices as the technology stack evolves.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge
· Foundational understanding of object-oriented programming principles and software development concepts.
· Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language (C# preferred; Java, C++, or similar considered).
· Understanding of relational databases and basic SQL (SELECT, JOIN, filtering, aggregation).
· Familiarity with core web technologies: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
· Awareness of the software development lifecycle and version control fundamentals.
Skills
· Ability to write clear, maintainable, and reasonably efficient code.
· Competence reading and navigating an existing codebase rather than only writing new code from scratch.
· Basic debugging and problem-solving skills — isolating a problem and working toward a fix.
· Effective written and verbal communication; able to ask clear questions and explain your work.
· Comfort using an IDE (e.g., Visual Studio) and standard developer tooling.
Abilities
· Eagerness and ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply feedback.
· Strong attention to detail; you verify and test your own work before considering it done.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and follow through to completion.
· A collaborative, team-first mindset with a positive, dependable attitude.
· Ability to work carefully and responsibly within systems that real users depend on.
