Junior Software Engineer

Position Overview
SteerBridge is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to support the Modern Disability Claims program. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone early in their software engineering career to learn full-stack development practices and contribute to features under the guidance of senior engineers. This individual will support mission-critical claims analytics and operational software.
Responsibilities
- Write clean, well-documented code to support full-stack feature development
- Assist with implementing and testing small, well-defined UI and API features under guidance
- Support senior engineers in debugging and resolving software defects
- Learn and apply the team’s coding standards, tools, and development processes
- Participate in peer code reviews to build familiarity with team practices
- Assist with writing and maintaining unit tests
- Document code and contribute to technical documentation as directed
- Learn the team’s domain, codebase, and Modern Disability Claims systems
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Must hold or be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance; an active Secret or Top Secret clearance also satisfies this requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 0–4 years of experience in software engineering or a related field
- Familiarity with JavaScript, TypeScript, and a modern front-end framework such as React.js
- Basic understanding of Node.js and RESTful APIs
- Familiarity with Git and version-control workflows
- Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn
- Ability to work collaboratively and receive feedback and mentorship from senior team members
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework, internship, or project experience with full-stack development
- Exposure to MERN or PERN stack technologies, including MongoDB, Express.js, and PostgreSQL
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines or containerization technologies such as Docker
- Familiarity with healthcare or claims data
