Junior Veterinary Nurse — Day/Night Rotation

East Island Animal Hospital is a 24-hour small-animal hospital in Hong Kong. Alongside general practice, we offer advanced care including CT imaging, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), and a specialist surgery referral service — a broad, hands-on environment where a junior nurse can refine their skills across every discipline.
The role
This is a fantastic opportunity for an early-career veterinary nurse to develop and refine their skills in all disciplines. Working alongside and supporting our Senior Nurses, you'll build confidence across consults, surgery, hospital care and diagnostics while giving our patients kind, attentive care. This position rotates between day and night shifts on a quarterly basis.
In the role, you'll:
Hospital, patient care & diagnostics
- Support with running basic diagnostic tests and report the results to the veterinary surgeon
- Perform a physical exam to obtain and interpret a patient's vital signs
- Assist with relevant diagnostic tests for different conditions (x-rays, ultrasound/CT, laboratory)
- Assist in keeping the Hospital Standards
- Assist with CPR
- Maintain the wards and hospital areas to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene — cleaning and disinfecting kennels and cages, changing bedding
- Help keep all clinical areas safe, tidy and well-stocked
Surgery
- Assist Senior Nurses in preparing patients for surgery, attaching monitoring equipment and helping monitor vital signs under GA (with the Senior Nurse overseeing the GA)
Consultations, reception & clients
- Assist Nurses across consults, surgery and hospital
- Maintain consultation-room standards — prepare, clean and reset consult rooms between appointments, disinfecting surfaces and equipment and restocking consumables to keep every room hygienic, tidy, welcoming and ready
- Perform phone triage and handle most patients using Fear Free approaches
- Provide basic preventative advice to clients
- Record medical history following appointments and read simple medical histories accurately
- Work on reception as and when required
Systems, knowledge & shifts
- Use EzyVet and Smart Flow to record and track patient information
- Maintain a good understanding of basic animal nutrition (Hill's and Royal Canin training provided/expected)
- Perform night shift, on a quarterly rotating day/night pattern (night-shift capability essential)
