About the job

Job summary

The Fair Work Agency (FWA) launched in April 2026 with a clear and ambitious mission: to make work fairer for everyone. We bring together key powers to protect workers, support responsible businesses, and take decisive action against exploitation. Today, we regulate employment agencies, license gangmasters in the agricultural and horticultural sectors, tackle serious labour abuse and modern slavery, and enable enforcement of the National Minimum Wage.

But this is just the start.

With new powers under the Employment Rights Act 2025, we are expanding our role even further. We are building the capability to ensure workers receive what they are entitled to, from holiday pay to statutory sick pay, and strengthening the system so that rights are not just set out in law, but actively upheld in practice.

Our approach is bold and practical:

  • We empower workers, ensuring they understand their rights and can easily access support and raise concerns
  • We make it easier for businesses to comply, simplifying processes and helping responsible employers do the right thing
  • We take firm action against those who exploit workers and undercut fair competition

This is a unique opportunity to join an organisation at the very beginning of its journey. You will help shape how we operate, influence our culture, and play a direct role in improving outcomes for millions of workers and employers across the UK.

We are looking for people who are curious, collaborative and driven by making a real difference, people who want to build something that matters

Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are looking to fill two roles within the KIM and Data Protection team in the Fair Work Agency (FWA) – a Records Manager and an Information Governance Manager. While the roles will share some responsibilities, they will also be responsible for their own areas. As this is a newly created team, the successful candidates will have the opportunity to work with the KIM Lead and Data Protection Officer to design a KIM team that supports the organisation's objectives.

Both roles will work with colleagues across the FWA to implement policies, processes and controls that support compliance with the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, records management legislation and best practice, and wider information rights obligations. This will include developing and delivering training, supporting knowledge management, managing information rights casework such as Freedom of Information and Subject Access Requests, and maintaining core compliance activity, including Records of Processing Activities (ROPAs) and related governance processes.

The Records Manager role will lead on developing and maintaining a robust records management framework that supports business areas to deliver their objectives.

The Information Governance Manager will focus on advising colleagues on suitable governance when using artificial intelligence, creating Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), reviewing data sharing arrangements and controls when managing personal or otherwise sensitive data.

Please let us know on your application if you have a preference for a role.

Key responsibilities:

  • To support the implementation of information governance, records and knowledge management and data protection compliance across the organisation by helping teams build KIM compliance requirements into business-as-usual activities, projects and operational processes.
  • Support and manage information rights casework, including Subject Access Requests and Freedom of Information requests, ensuring responses are coordinated effectively, handled in line with legal requirements and delivered within statutory deadlines.
  • Provide proportionate, practical and well-structured advice and guidance to colleagues on their obligations under information governance and records management legislation and best practice, including delivery of regular training.
  • Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of information governance and data protection policies, guidance, processes and controls to help ensure organisational compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Support core compliance activity, including maintaining Records of Processing Activities and helping ensure appropriate documentation is in place.
  • Maintain accurate, high-quality records of advice, casework, decisions and actions for accountability, audit and assurance purposes.
  • Contribute to project plans and delivery across a range of information governance and records management workstreams, supporting senior colleagues with implementation activity, monitoring progress and helping to resolve issues.
  • Help drive engagement with KIM and data protection policies and standards at an operational level, building awareness and supporting colleagues to apply good practice consistently in day-to-day work.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across business, digital, operational and corporate teams to identify risks early, promote good knowledge and information handling practice and support a culture of compliance.

  • Develop and implement a records management framework for records in all formats that supports day to day work of all business areas, and promotes re-use of valuable information.
  • Appraise and process records that meet the criteria for transfer to the National Archives.

Key responsibilities specifically for the Information Governance Manager

  • Support the Data Protection Officer in handling personal data breaches, including logging incidents, supporting investigations, assessing risks and contributing to recommendations and follow-up actions.
  • Develop Data Protection Impact Assessments, review data sharing arrangements, and assist in designing an approach to using artificial intelligence.
