Swansea Council Kitchen Assistant
Working under the guidance of the Cook, you will assist with the preparation, cooking and serving of meals, snacks and beverages while ensuring residents' individual needs, preferences and choices are respected. The role involves a variety of kitchen and dining room duties, including food preparation, washing up, setting up and clearing tables, transporting meals, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and supporting a safe and welcoming environment. You will be expected to comply with Swansea Council policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, HACCP, COSHH and fire safety requirements, as well as undertake relevant training, including emergency evacuation procedures and the safe use of manual handling equipment.
We are looking for a team player who can maintain professional standards, identify opportunities for service improvement, work within allocated budgets and contribute positively to the wellbeing and quality of life of our residents. This is a permanent part time position.
The salary for the position is Grade 3 £26,016 per annum pro rata.
- Assist in food preparation and cooking, ensuring meals meet dietary requirements and preferences of residents.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Handle kitchen equipment and tools safely, following proper manual handling procedures.
- Comply with food hygiene standards and best practices to ensure resident safety.
- Assist in inventory management and ordering of kitchen supplies.
- Work collaboratively with the care team to provide a holistic approach to resident care.
- Attend training sessions to stay updated on health and safety protocols.
- Ensure a warm and welcoming atmosphere for residents during mealtimes.
- Report any maintenance issues or health and safety concerns promptly.
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service role is preferred but not essential.
- A basic understanding of food hygiene and safety practices is required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- A caring and compassionate nature, with a desire to support vulnerable adults.
- Physical fitness to perform manual handling tasks safely.
- Willingness to undergo relevant training and development opportunities.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting.
- A flexible approach to work, including shifts and on-call duties.
