Kitchen Assistant

Working under the guidance of the Cook, you will assist with the preparation, cooking and serving of meals, snacks and beverages while ensuring residents' individual needs, preferences and choices are respected. The role involves a variety of kitchen and dining room duties, including food preparation, washing up, setting up and clearing tables, transporting meals, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and supporting a safe and welcoming environment. You will be expected to comply with Swansea Council policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, HACCP, COSHH and fire safety requirements, as well as undertake relevant training, including emergency evacuation procedures and the safe use of manual handling equipment.

We are looking for a team player who can maintain professional standards, identify opportunities for service improvement, work within allocated budgets and contribute positively to the wellbeing and quality of life of our residents.

The salary for the position is Grade 3, £26,016 per annum pro rata

• Assist in preparing and serving nutritious meals to service users, ensuring their dietary needs and preferences are met.
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, adhering to health and safety regulations and food hygiene standards.
• Support service users in a respectful and empathetic manner, promoting their independence and dignity.
• Work collaboratively with the care team to ensure a seamless and integrated approach to service user care.
• Undertake any relevant training, such as food hygiene and safety courses, to enhance your skills and knowledge.
• Follow Care Inspectorate Wales standards and Swansea Council requirements, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
• Assist in stocking and organizing kitchen supplies, ensuring an efficient and well-equipped workspace.
• Collaborate with the kitchen team to create diverse and appealing menus, considering cultural and dietary preferences.
• Assist in special events and celebrations, contributing to a positive and enjoyable atmosphere for service users.

• A positive and caring attitude, with a passion for supporting vulnerable adults.
• Willingness to undergo and complete the Food Safety Level 2 Award or an equivalent food hygiene qualification.
• Previous experience in a kitchen or food service role is an asset but not mandatory.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with service users and colleagues.
• A flexible and adaptable approach to work, accommodating the needs of service users and the care team.
• Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and communication purposes.
• Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods.
• A commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to learn new skills.
• A valid food handler's permit or willingness to obtain one.
• A clean criminal record, as a thorough background check will be conducted.
