Kokomo Casting Plant Lab Manager

Overview:

Coordinate and manage the metallurgical / chemical laboratory activities, analyze materials according to quality, operational and engineering requirements, maintain communication to QCM, operations and quality teams regarding the results of productive and non-productive material analysis

Specific Roles & Responsibilities:

1. Supervision of the metallurgical and chemical laboratory
2. Metallurgical analysis of productive and non-productive material according FCA Standards and Procedures.
3. Composes and issues inspection reports according to MS, PS, PF or provided by the requestors
4. Monitors maintains and manages the daily metallurgical records systems
5. Provides metallurgical and metallographic analysis services to the casting plant as well as supporting customer machining lines and/or assembly lines and corporate engineering.
6. Evaluation and disposition of castings, forging and die steel tooling
7. Analysis and defect evaluation of warranty returns and internal customer rejects and complaints
8. Maintains the laboratory inspection and measurement equipment, including metallurgical sample preparation equipment, optical microscopes and metallographs, SEM equipment, spectroscopy equipment, X-ray and CT systems, chemical analysis systems and mechanical property measurement systems
9. Responsible for calibration and ensuring all met lab equipment complies with corporate calibration requirements.
10. Implementation and maintenance of procedures, instructions, formats and records according to CQI-9 along with MQAS requirements.
11. Control processing parameters and monitor results of quality requirements for heat treatment of powertrain components.
12. The Metallurgist / Met lab manager provides support to casting and heat treat production processes
13. Supervise and manage chemical systems and analysis of oils, lubricants and coolant systems.
14. Promote continuous improvement throughout the plant
15. Provide and practice the identification and elimination of losses and waste in the different areas in the plant.
16. Supervision and management of the union personnel in the laboratory across a 3 shift schedule
