Legal Aid Alberta is seeking to fill a full-time, 24 month Legal Assistant position in our Edmonton office. This position will appeal to someone who takes initiative, is client focused, and is committed to delivering high-quality results.

Job Description
Reporting to the Office Manager, some of the key responsibilities include:
Preparing and managing a large volume of internal and external legal documents, correspondence, and materials in hard copy and electronic formats.
Gathering, analyzing, and organizing information from clients, opposing counsel, and other third parties for active files or court docket lists, including legal, financial, and related documents.
Maintaining files in databases and hard copy.
Managing calendars, booking appointments, scheduling court dates, completing file diarization, and preparing supporting materials.
Filing documents with the court and coordinating the delivery of documents between Legal Aid Alberta offices and the courthouse.
Maintaining tracking documents for work completed on legal files and recording file statistics.
Commission documents as required.
Preparing draft invoices and statements of account.
Providing coverage for co-workers during vacations and other leaves.
Participating in meetings as required.
Performing other duties as directed by management.
Education and Experience
Legal Assistant Diploma or Certificate is required.
A minimum of two years related legal assistant experience is an asset, particularly in criminal law, family law, administrative law, tribunal processes.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of legal support processes.
Knowledge of or experience with criminal law, family law, administrative law, and tribunal processes will be considered an asset.
Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Legal Files.
Experience accurately maintaining a database.
Experience using various office equipment, including printers, copiers, and fax machines.
Demonstrated time management skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
Annual Salary Range: $54,378 to $77,910
