Laboratory Accessioning Technician – GI Pathology Lab

Play a vital role in patient care by supporting the accuracy of laboratory testing.

Help ensure accuracy and quality from the very start of the pathology process. Raleigh Medical Group, PA, is seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Accessioning Technician to support our Gastroenterology Pathology Laboratory.

This role is responsible for receiving, verifying, and accessioning pathology specimens, entering critical patient and specimen information into the laboratory information system, and ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete before specimens move through the laboratory process


Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and verify pathology specimens and accompanying documentation.
  • Review specimens and paperwork for completeness and identify discrepancies.
  • Enter patient and specimen information into the pathology laboratory information system.
  • Prepare slides, cassettes, and related documentation for the histology team.
  • Maintain accession logs, manifests, and laboratory records.
  • File and archive slides and tissue blocks.
  • Track and document outgoing and incoming slide and block requests.
  • Communicate specimen issues and discrepancies to laboratory staff.
  • Collaborate with endoscopy and laboratory personnel.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and HIPAA requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent; strong data entry, organization, and computer skills; attention to detail.
  • Preferred: Experience in a medical office, laboratory, pathology, or healthcare setting; familiarity with EMR/LIS systems; knowledge of medical terminology; science-related education.
