Lab Engineer, Automation
Global R&D Laboratories organization is seeking an R&D Lab Automation Engineer to join the Laboratory team in Wroclaw. In this role you will work closely with the local Lab team in Wroclaw and collaborate with Lab teams at 16 sites worldwide.
You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining functionalities for AI-enabled automation, infrastructure orchestration, and internal engineering tools. The role combines infrastructure automation with modern AI capabilities.
- Design, implement, and maintain automation solutions and internal tools for R&D laboratories
- Develop AI-enabled automation and infrastructure orchestration capabilities
- Build and enhance automation scripts, backend services, and web-based user interfaces
- Integrate systems with internal platforms using REST APIs and ensure codebase maintenance
- Support AI initiatives (e.g., RAG, agent-based workflows, LLM integrations)
- Analyze requirements, deliver backend/frontend features, and troubleshoot automation issues
- Test, validate, and continuously improve tools and solutions, including documentation
- Collaborate with international teams and gradually take ownership of selected areas
Must have:
- Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or equivalent experience
- Very good English communication skills and ability to work in international teams
- Reliability, analytical mindset, problem-solving skills, ownership, and teamwork
- Strong Python skills and understanding of object-oriented design principles
- Experience in automation, scripting, backend development, or infrastructure tooling
- Familiarity with Linux/UNIX and Windows environments (configuration, troubleshooting, scripting)
- Basic knowledge of Docker, REST APIs, integrations, and networking (TCP/IP)
- Interest in AI technologies (RAG, LLMs, agents) and willingness to learn automation design
Nice to have:
- Experience or familiarity with R&D environments (e.g., laboratories, research setups, engineering test environments)
- Experience in Automation, Software, DevOps, or Infrastructure Engineering roles
- Familiarity with CI/CD, monitoring, logging, or observability tools
- Experience with Docker and basic container orchestration concepts
- Experience with internal engineering tools, self-service portals, or developer platforms
- Knowledge of vector databases, semantic search, or LLM APIs / model-serving platforms
- Interest in building AI assistants and agent-based workflows for technical users
- Understanding of security and access control principles for automation platforms
