Laboratory Assistant - 2nd Shift
UL Solutions is hiring a Laboratory Assistant to join our Fiber Analysis lab at the Retail and Consumer Products Center of Excellence.
This role is on 2nd Shift, which is 2pm to 10:30pm, Monday through Friday.
- Under direct supervision, performs specialized laboratory testing and analyses.
- Determines and assigns testing to samples submitted to the laboratory.
- Performs selection and collection of test specimens.
- Perform routine tests and procedures and utilizes AATCC practices and internal SOPs.
- Performs complex/non-routine or detailed tests and analyses.
- Performs calculations, prepares reports, and assesses proper calibration and standardization of equipment and procedures.
- Implements tests and procedures requiring selection and adaptation of test equipment and test procedures with lab management supervision.
- Records and analyzes data and prepares written reports.
- Builds and/or adapts basic setup and test equipment for performance of tests.
- Performs tests using general laboratory equipment.
- Performs routine care of designated test equipment and work area.
- Operates computer terminal to extract/input readily available information and to use available software.
- As directed follows defined test plans and datasheets.
- Evaluates test performance and sample operation to properly evaluate test results.
- Records and explains test results.
- Reads and interprets results of tests.
- Prepares charts, graphs and reports to explain test results.
- Examines test samples, reads measuring instruments and reviews test data with supervisor.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and operational instructions.
- As instructed examines customer samples and learns to operate basic tests for each case.
- Communicates with customers during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation.
- Operates designated laboratory equipment and tools as directed.
- Receives instructions from and reports data to engineers and other laboratory technician staff.
- Records observed or calculated data on appropriate data sheets.
- Develops working knowledge of the job, methods, instrumentation and systems.
- Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
- Performs other duties as directed.
- Some university education (equivalent to an Associate’s degree) in Chemistry or a related discipline, plus generally two years of laboratory experience.
- Knowledge of wet chemistry techniques, including titrations and microscopic analysis.
- Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers.
- Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office suite is a must.
