Laboratory Research Technician III
Description
Eagle Integrated Services, LLC (EIS) is seeking a Laboratory Research Technician to support cell culture and animal research at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD). The technician will maintain cell cultures, support physiological and pharmacological studies, document and analyze research data, and collaborate with the principal investigator (PI) and research team in applied medical defense research.
Position Responsibilities:
Cell Culture and Laboratory Research
Monitor, culture, passage, and maintain stem cells, microglia, and organoids using appropriate cell culture and molecular biology techniques; monitor cultures for contamination or changes that could affect results.
Prepare and replenish media, solutions, and reagents; perform dilutions and maintain multiple cell and organoid culture lines concurrently.
Maintain cell line banks, stock solutions, media, chemical inventories, and laboratory equipment; perform routine assays and follow equipment manufacturer guidance.
Perform immunohistochemical staining, cryostat sectioning, and microscopy; develop or modify analytical methods using computer-assisted microscopy and histological procedures.
Animal Research
Monitor animal research subjects, including nonhuman primates (NHPs) and small animals, during the workday and support physiological, pharmacological, and behavioral studies.
Handle and restrain animals; assess health and behavior, track weight, and administer pharmaceutical or chemical compounds as authorized by approved protocols.
Assist with pre-surgical, surgical, and post-surgical procedures, including implantation of telemetry or related physiological monitoring devices; habituate animals to behavioral equipment and restraint devices.
Schedule and conduct experimental procedures, including test drug preparation, solubility studies, blood sampling, physiological monitoring, behavioral testing, perfusion, and tissue dissection.
Assess and document animal health and behavior following administration of candidate therapeutic compounds by intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intravenous routes, as applicable.
Research Documentation and Compliance
Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, daily reports, and digital and physical research records using good documentation practices; record findings during or immediately following experiments.
Analyze and compile data and contribute to project milestones, reports, figures, presentations, manuscripts, proposals, and other written products as requested by the PI or COR.
Assist with research protocols, amendments, and experimental design, and communicate protocol requirements to team members, collaborators, and support personnel.
Conduct research in accordance with applicable safety, surety, security, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and standard operating procedure requirements; maintain clean, safe laboratory and animal spaces and properly dispose of potentially hazardous waste.
Coordinate laboratory supplies, animals, and equipment to support project schedules and ensure the quality of procedures and data.
Education and Qualifications
Degree in biological sciences, such as biology, neuroscience, or cell and molecular biology, or in psychology.
Knowledge of pharmacology, neuroscience, and applied medical defense research.
Experience scheduling and executing cell culture protocols and maintaining microglia, stem cells, or organoid cultures.
Background in organotypic or acute brain slice culture, along with in vitro electrophysiology techniques (e.g., microelectrode arrays and whole-cell patch clamp), is preferred.
Proficiency with EthoVision XT software is preferred.
Experience executing animal use protocols and handling nonhuman primates (NHPs) is required. Experience handling small animals (rats preferred), or at least one year of animal or husbandry research experience, is also required.
Experience with fluorescence or two-photon microscopy hardware and software; Microsoft Excel and Word; GraphPad Prism or similar statistical software; and DSI hardware and software.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and adaptability to new research teams or project assignments.
