Laboratory Technician (Materials Analysis)

Join our EAG team as a Laboratory Technician and play a key role in supporting high-quality materials analysis. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing samples and equipment for analysis through mounting, machining, polishing and other related lab techniques.

You will gain hands-on experience working with a broad variety of materials - including silicon wafers, compound semiconductors (GaAs, SiC, and GaN), semiconductor devices, metals, alloys, ceramics, glass and other advanced materials.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Sample preparation - cleaving samples to size, cleaning as needed, and mounting samples for SIMS (Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry) analysis.
  • Perform sample sectioning, grinding, lapping, and polishing of materials to meet SIMS analytical requirements and ensure high-quality surface finishes.
  • Prepare cross-sections and polished surfaces while minimizing contamination, subsurface damage, and preparation artifacts.
  • Inspect polished samples using optical microscopes and profilometers to verify surface quality and compliance with analytical specifications.
  • Operate supporting equipment such as profilometers, microscopes, fine tools (tweezers, scribing tools, etc.).
  • Section, mount and clean test pieces in a consistent manner acceptable for analysis.
  • Use chemical solutions and processes to prepare / clean sample.
  • Review and adhere to customer specifications and requirements, including visual inspection of received materials for condition and correlation with customer description.

The Technician opportunity is located in Sunnyvale, CA. As relocation assistance is not offered, we encourage local candidates to apply.

Work Schedule: Mondays to Fridays: 8:30am-5:30pm

Compliance Requirement (ITAR)

This position supports work related to defense applications and is subject to ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations). All considered applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident.

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Basic understanding of chemical safety.
  • Relevant experience in performing analytical testing with sophisticated equipment a plus.
  • Fine manual dexterity, high level of accuracy and detail oriented.
  • Must be able to multi-task and maintain exceptional organizational skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Require close distance visual acuity with or without correction (Glasses, Contacts, etc.).
  • Ability to operate a keyboard and other lab equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and understandably ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.
  • Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with visitors, ability to complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity quota.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer or lab equipment for extended periods of time (4 or more hours).
