Job Summary

Sims Metal is seeking a hardworking, reliable, and safety-conscious Laborer to join our scrap metal recycling facility in the Bronx, NY. This is a union position offering competitive hourly compensation and benefits in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working outdoors in a fast-paced industrial environment, performing physically demanding tasks, and supporting daily scrap yard operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Sort, separate, and process ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal.

• Assist with loading, unloading, and moving scrap materials throughout the facility.

• Perform general labor duties, including lifting, carrying, sweeping, shoveling, and cleaning.

• Remove debris and unwanted materials from scrap piles and processing areas.

• Assist heavy equipment operators with daily yard activities.

• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.

• Use basic hand tools and equipment as needed.

• Follow all company safety policies and environmental procedures.

• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Report unsafe conditions and equipment issues to supervisors.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a scrap yard, recycling facility, construction, warehouse, or industrial environment preferred.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.

• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.

• Basic knowledge of hand tools and industrial equipment is a plus.

• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively with a team.

• Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn.

Work Environment

• Outdoor scrap metal recycling facility.

• Exposure to dust, noise, heavy equipment, and changing weather conditions.

• Physically active position requiring frequent movement and material handling.

• Strict adherence to company safety standards.

Compensation & Benefits

Starting Pay: $20.97 per hour

This is a union position. Wages, benefits, and applicable terms and conditions of employment are governed by the collective bargaining agreement.
