Job Summary

The Landscaper I supports the maintenance and enhancement of commercial, industrial, and public properties. Working under the direction of a Crew Leader, this entry-level position performs routine landscape maintenance tasks, assists with the safe operation of landscaping equipment, and helps maintain attractive, healthy outdoor environments.

Compensation

Starting pay for this position is $15.00 to $17.00 per hour, with opportunities for higher compensation based on relevant experience, certifications, licenses, and demonstrated skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mow turf using a variety of commercial-grade power mowers.
  • Perform trimming and edging using gas-powered trimmers and edgers.
  • Operate backpack blowers and other landscape maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
  • Prune shrubs and small trees to improve appearance, encourage healthy growth, and remove damaged branches.
  • Plant, maintain, and care for flower beds and landscape plantings.
  • Edge and trim around sidewalks, trees, flower beds, buildings, fences, and other landscape features.
  • Remove litter, leaves, and other debris from assigned properties before mowing and maintenance activities.
  • Mulch leaves and organic material during mowing operations when appropriate.
  • Perform weed control through hand pulling and approved manual cultivation methods.
  • Conduct basic preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Remove dead plants, landscape debris, and unwanted plant growth as directed.
  • Safely perform snow removal operations in the winter under the direction of the Crew Leader and Operations Manager
  • Maintain a professional, courteous, and customer-focused attitude when interacting with clients, guests, and the public.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and report unsafe conditions, hazards, or equipment issues to the Crew Leader or Operations Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Dependable, motivated, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment and hand tools.
  • Certified and proficient in Level I equipment operation, including:
    • Backpack blower
    • Stick edger
    • String trimmer
    • Walk-behind mower
  • Basic knowledge of horticultural and landscape maintenance practices preferred.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and follow established procedures.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly lift and carry materials weighing up to 40 pounds, including mulch, fertilizer, and landscape materials.
  • Ability to load and unload landscape debris and plant materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, walk, and stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
  • Ability to safely wear and utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Work Environment

  • Regular work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold temperatures, and direct sunlight.
  • Exposure to automotive traffic, natural bodies of water, dust, fumes, and mechanical or electrical hazards.
  • Ability to work in temperatures that may exceed 100°F during peak summer conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to noise from landscaping equipment and outdoor work environments.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment, including:
    • Safety glasses
    • High-visibility vest
    • Work gloves
    • Hard hat (when required)
    • Hearing protection
    • Long-sleeved shirts
    • Work boots
