Laser Programmer / Operator – Job Description

Experience: 1–3 years preferred

Job Responsibilities

• Create and modify laser cutting programs based on engineering drawings.
• Operate CNC laser cutting machines safely and efficiently.
• Read and interpret 2D CAD drawings, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Optimize cutting layouts/nesting to minimize material wastage.
• Set machine parameters such as power, speed, frequency, gas pressure, and focus.
• Select appropriate cutting tools/nozzles and materials.
• Perform first-piece inspection and ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Monitor machine operation and troubleshoot basic cutting/programming issues.
• Maintain production records and follow the production schedule.
• Perform routine machine cleaning and basic maintenance.
• Follow safety procedures and quality standards.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of CNC laser cutting machines.
• Experience with CAD/CAM or laser programming software.
• Ability to read engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of MS Office/basic computer operation.
• Understanding of sheet-metal materials and thicknesses.
• Good problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Ability to work in shifts when required.

Education

ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Production, Fabrication, or a related field preferred.
