The Laser Programmer creates, tests, and optimizes digital cutting paths for CNC laser machines using CAD/CAM software, nests parts to minimize material waste, and ensures components match engineering blueprints.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Programming & Nesting: Write and edit offline or online programs using software like IGEMS, MetaCAM, or Feature CAM, arranging layouts to maximize sheet metal efficiency.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read technical drawings, work orders, and sketches to verify correct dimensions and tolerances.
- Machine Optimization: Select proper laser power, gas, focus, and speeds for different materials.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose cutting errors or software bugs, adjusting toolpaths to reduce scrap and downtime.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, or tape measures.
- Issuing material for jobs: Issue material to jobs using SL scanner and KANBAN material racks.
- All other tasks that may be requested by management.
