Laundry Assistant

Summary

Sort, wash, and return residents' laundry while maintaining infection control and equipment safety in a care-home setting.

Laundry Assistant
  • To always wear protective clothing and observe infection control measures according to the Laundry and Spillage Policy.
  • To sort laundry and clothes according to colours i.e., separating whites from dark colours, also separate dirty laundry from contaminated laundry.
  • To be diligent and careful to wash clothes on the correct cycle according to the manufacturers instructions.
  • All soiled laundry is to be placed in the red alginate bags and washed at 71° C on the sluice boil cycle No.2. After which they can be washed on the normal wash with the prescribed detergents.
  • To withdraw torn linen and clothes and repair as required.
  • Check all marking and name tapes and renew as necessary.
  • Return laundry and clothes to the residents’ rooms within the same day as far as possible.
  • Ensure that machines are kept clean, safe and in a good state of repair. De fluff the dryer after every cycle.
  • The laundry floor and sink area must be cleaned with disinfectant and kept clean and dry.
  • To ensure hand washing liquid soap and disposable paper towels are always available in the laundry room.

· To attend staff meetings regularly and to participate in training as requested.


· Communicating and coordinating with colleagues as necessary.

  • Contribute to team effort
· Build sustainable relationships of trust through open and interactive communication
· To be familiar with fire procedures and to attend fire drills and training as requested.
· To be familiar with and to comply with the Health and Safety Policy and to attend training sessions as requested.

· Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), and confidence communicating with people at all levels whilst maintaining confidentiality when required

· Have energy, enthusiasm and confidence to take the initiative
