LAUNDRY ROOM ATTENDANT- PT

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Laundry Room Attendant /Homeless Community in-reach staff is a new position that The Midnight Mission deems vital to providing a safe, clean, secure, trauma-free resource for people who are experiencing homelessness on the streets of skid-row. The laundry room will be in use 8 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Security Supervisor, the laundry room attendant will provide a safe, clean, secure trauma-free environment and perform various laundry duties within The Midnight Mission Laundry Room.

• Collect mesh bags of dirty laundry,
• Ensure guests have properly counted and documented all items,
• Wash/dry clothing,
• Properly use and maintain laundry room equipment,
• Provide friendly welcoming customer service to guests,
• Ensure laundry room is not being used for inappropriate activities such as drug use or selling/exchanging of drugs, smoking, loitering, or other unsuitable activities.
• Report suspicious individuals and/or activity to Security Supervisor/Staff.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
• Laundry Room Attendant should be informed of all services offered by The Midnight Mission.

CANIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of general laundry cleaning skills and cleaning techniques
• Ability to project a professional demeanor and exercise mature judgement
• Engagement and rapport building skills with all guests, including those who present difficulties
• Demonstrated ability to work with individuals of diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds
• Knowledge about non-violent crisis intervention techniques
• Ability to work independently and complete assigned duties with minimum supervision.
• Flexible, adaptable, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment that requires sensitivity and professionalism

• Availability to work evening and weekends as requested by management, and based on the operational needs of the program

• Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively as a team player.
• Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English – must be able to read words and phrases in English on cleaning supply containers, etc.
• Ability to arrive to work reliably and on time
