Lead AI Engineer
This is a senior individual contributor role on a small, high-ownership AI engineering team embedded within a larger enterprise legal tech organization. You will help build the next generation of contract-intelligence software, working directly with founding leadership to shape architecture, strategy, and shipped product.
What You'll Do- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to architect and develop user-facing AI applications end-to-end.
- Design intelligent solutions spanning both back-end and front-end systems.
- Drive technical strategy, roadmaps, and engineering best practices across the team.
- Define and implement success metrics for engineering initiatives.
- Initiate and lead technical projects with direct ownership over shipped systems.
- Leverage AI coding tools daily to accelerate development velocity.
- 8 or more years of relevant software engineering experience, with at least 4 years focused on building AI or ML products in production.
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL/Postgres; working knowledge of at least one additional language such as JavaScript, Java, or Go.
- Hands-on experience building AI agents or applications using frameworks such as LangChain or LangGraph.
- Practical experience integrating large language model APIs (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic) into production systems.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes) and at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern version control workflows.
- Background in SaaS startups with direct ownership of backend or AI systems in a small team environment.
- Comfort navigating ambiguous, fast-moving environments and delivering results with autonomy.
- Experience with LLM monitoring, observability, or evaluation tooling is a plus.
- Exposure to fine-tuning or training machine learning models is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
Salary range: $175,000 to $300,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is available.
LocationOn-site, 5 days per week in New York, NY. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate.
