Lead Analyst, Pricing Intelligence

About the Role

Total Wine & More is seeking a Lead Analyst, Pricing Intelligence to join our Pricing team in Bethesda, MD. In this role, you will build scalable analytics, processes, and decision-support tools that strengthen pricing and assortment planning. You will lead analytical product development across markdown optimization, competitive data, pricing foundations, experimentation, and AI-enabled assortment planning, translating business needs into clear requirements, business logic, measurement frameworks, and practical tools. This is a highly analytical and product-oriented role working at the intersection of pricing strategy, data, AI, and decision-support systems. You will report to the Sr. Manager, Pricing.

You will

  • Build and scale a markdown optimization process, including recommendation logic, tracking tools, performance reporting, and a testing framework to evaluate and refine markdown strategies.
  • Lead requirements gathering and business logic development for competitive data outlier detection, translating pricing needs into clear rules, workflows, acceptance criteria, and quality controls for the future pricing platform.
  • Rebuild competitive data aggregation and competitor location mapping capabilities to improve data coverage, accuracy, and usability across stores, markets, and pricing zones.
  • Enhance foundational pricing capabilities, including competitive high/low smoothing, state fill-in logic, automated quality checks, and exception reporting.
  • Lead the analytical workstream for A/B tests by defining hypotheses, test and control groups, success metrics, measurement approaches, analyses, and executive-ready readouts.
  • Partner with Pricing, Assortment Planning, Merchandising, and Technology teams to develop AI-enabled assortment planning tools using BigQuery and generative AI, including capabilities for new store assortments, discontinue recommendations, category reviews, and core assortment planning.
  • Own analytical products from problem definition through launch and continuous improvement, documenting requirements, validating outputs, incorporating user feedback, and driving adoption.
  • Translate complex analyses into clear recommendations, scalable dashboards, and decision-support tools for business partners and leadership.

You will come with

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 3-6+ years of experience in pricing, retail analytics, product analytics, consulting, data science, or a related field
  • Proven ability to independently structure ambiguous business problems and convert them into analytical solutions, business rules, and scalable tools
  • Advanced SQL experience with the ability to query, transform, validate, and troubleshoot large datasets; experience with BigQuery is strongly preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience developing dashboards or decision-support tools in Power BI or a comparable analytics platform
  • Experience defining business requirements, analytical logic, data quality rules, acceptance criteria, and user workflows for data products or internal tools
  • Experience designing and evaluating experiments, including test/control methodology, KPI definition, impact measurement, and communication of results
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and a focus on scalable, automated solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts and analytical findings for non-technical audiences
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with Python or another programming language is preferred
  • Experience applying generative AI tools to analytics, workflow automation, or decision-support use cases is preferred
  • Experience in retail pricing, markdown optimization, competitive intelligence, or assortment planning is preferred
