Fujitsu is hiring a Lead Modernisation Architect in Melbourne to hands-on drive application modernisation engagements for enterprise and government customers across Australia and New Zealand — assessing legacy codebases, shaping transformation roadmaps, and applying AI-assisted/agentic tooling with cloud-native, microservices, and containerised architectures.
Fujitsu Oceania is expanding its application modernisation capability with a dedicated focus on AI-assisted and agent-driven approaches. We are seeking an experienced Lead Modernisation Architect to drive the technical strategy and delivery of modernisation engagements across our enterprise and government customer base.
About the Role
Technical Delivery & Modernisation
- Lead end-to-end application modernisation engagements from assessment through delivery and transition.
- Conduct hands-on application portfolio assessments, analysing legacy codebases, technical debt, dependencies, and modernisation opportunities.
- Create actionable and prioritised modernisation roadmaps aligned to business objectives.
- Evaluate, configure, and apply AI-assisted modernisation tools across customer environments.
- Design and build agentic workflows that automate code analysis, documentation generation, and modernisation planning activities.
- Define target-state architectures leveraging cloud-native, microservices, API-first, event-driven, and containerised approaches.
- Develop and continuously improve repeatable modernisation methodologies, frameworks, and delivery patterns.
Advisory & Customer Engagement
You will:
- Facilitate modernisation workshops and discovery sessions with CTOs, Enterprise Architects, Application Owners, and technology leaders.
- Translate complex legacy technology challenges into practical and achievable transformation strategies.
- Support pre-sales activities through solution shaping, estimation, technical leadership, and customer engagement.
- Present findings, recommendations, and strategic roadmaps to senior customer stakeholders.
Capability & Offering Development
- Standardise delivery learnings into reusable frameworks, templates, assessment models, and reference architectures.
- Contribute to the creation of intellectual property, accelerators, and modernisation assets that strengthen Fujitsu's market offering.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to apply AI-assisted development and agent-based approaches.
- Mentor and support team members as the modernisation practice continues to grow.
About You
Essential Experience
- Significant hands-on experience modernising enterprise applications through re-platforming, re-architecting, or legacy transformation initiatives.
- Deep understanding of legacy technology environments, including monolithic architectures, tightly coupled services, legacy integration patterns, and technical debt challenges.
- Experience assessing complex application portfolios using code analysis tools, dependency mapping, architecture reviews, and quality metrics.
- Strong architecture expertise across cloud-native, API-first, microservices, event-driven, containerised, and Infrastructure-as-Code environments.
- Experience working with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP), including migration and deployment strategies.
- Strong DevOps capability, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment automation, and modern engineering practices.
- Experience working with enterprise or government customers within consulting, professional services, or large-scale transformation environments.
- The ability to operate across the full engagement lifecycle, from advisory and assessment through to delivery and knowledge transfer.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with experience presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A pragmatic, outcome-focused mindset with a strong commitment to delivering measurable business value.
Desirable Experience
We would also value:
- Experience with AI-assisted development, code analysis, automated refactoring, or software modernisation tooling.
- Knowledge of agentic AI concepts, including LLM integration, orchestration frameworks, RAG architectures, and multi-agent systems.
- Familiarity with Australian Government security and digital frameworks, including PSPF, ISM, and Hosting Certification Framework requirements.
- Knowledge of application portfolio management approaches and technical debt measurement frameworks.
