Senior Backend Engineer — Payments & Onboarding

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate robust services that enable a seamless onboarding and payments experience. You will join a cross-functional team of engineers, product designers, and product managers that values ownership, collaboration, and high-quality delivery. This is a hybrid position with regular in-office presence mid-week and remote flexibility otherwise.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate backend services and architectures that support payments and onboarding workflows, participating across the full software development lifecycle.
• Apply clean architecture and industry best practices to ensure service stability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Produce clean, testable, and well-documented code and adhere to team coding standards.
• Deploy, monitor, and maintain production systems; triage incidents, debug issues, and communicate status and priorities with stakeholders.

What we’re looking for

• Several years of professional experience building distributed backend systems.
• Strong systems-design skills and the ability to independently implement and uphold clean-architecture standards.
• Technology-agnostic mindset: experience in TypeScript/Node.js preferred, but strong engineers from Java, Go, or similar stacks are welcome.
• Passion for software engineering with a continuous-improvement mentality.
• User-focused: ability to understand real user problems and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
• Data-driven and observability-oriented: ability to measure, reflect, and iterate on system and team performance.
• Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and clear communication skills; proactive collaborator.

Desirable (bonus) skills

• Experience in payments or other high-reliability transactional domains.
• Fluency with TypeScript/Node.js.
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (e.g., Pub/Sub, Firestore).
• Experience with observability tooling such as Grafana and Prometheus.

Location

• Hybrid role with regular in-office days mid-week; other days may be remote. Specific office details will be provided during the recruiting process.
