Lead Data Engineer

Summary

The Lead Data Engineer will design and manage data pipelines, lead technical teams, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver digital solutions. The role requires expertise in Python, SQL, cloud platforms, Snowflake, and dbt within an Agile environment.

Salary: £59,000 - 99,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Excellent experience delivering in Python and at least one other core language
  • Excellent experience with SQL and relational databases
  • Solid experience with cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Solid experience working with Snowflake and dbt
  • Strong experience working with different data formats, such as CSV, JSON, and XML
  • Expertise in building reliable data pipelines
  • Experience operating as a technical leader on complex projects and managing stakeholder expectations
  • Expertise in coaching and guiding others to achieve optimal solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Mastery of working in an Agile environment and CI/CD practices
  • Ability to define working procedures and methodologies for the team
  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases is desirable
  • Experience in data modelling is highly desirable
  • Broader knowledge of IT, such as security and networking, is desirable
Responsibilities:
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert within our engineering community to ensure user-centred software is developed based on business requirements and best practice
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to explore, design, and deliver solutions to complex client problems
  • Design and manage software development and deployment pipelines, resolving issues and potential bottlenecks before they occur
  • Continuously review and prioritise the delivery teams workload and anticipate the need for realignment with evolving priorities
  • Communicate and present solutions and progress to internal and external stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
  • Build strong relationships with your team and stakeholders, identifying and resolving challenges
  • Lead the recruitment and onboarding of other engineers and support consultants in their professional development
  • Lead on new business opportunities by writing technical bids and proposals
  • Promote our data community externally through blogs, workshops, or speaking at conferences
