Lead Data Engineer

Are you an experienced data engineer who enjoys solving complex data problems, shaping robust data models and helping others do their best work?
We’re looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join our Retail DataOps team, helping to design, build and improve modern data solutions across the Retail Analytics Data Hub. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, working with tools such as Snowflake, ADF and dbt Cloud, while also supporting engineers, engaging with business stakeholders and helping to mature how data pipelines are delivered.
You’ll be working across Retail data domains including protection, retirement, annuities and pensions, with a mix of BAU and project-based work
What you’ll be doing:
- Designing and building modern data solutions across the Retail Analytics Data Hub
- Developing scalable data pipelines using modern ELT approaches and tools such as Snowflake, ADF and dbt Cloud
- Translating business requirements into clear technical specifications, delivery plans and engineering tasks
- Leading data modelling activity, including Kimball-style fact and dimension design
- Supporting migration from legacy tooling towards Snowflake-centred data solutions
- Working within Scrum teams to refine, plan and deliver data engineering work
- Mentoring and coaching data engineers across the team
- Improving standards, documentation, quality, governance and release processes
Who we’re looking for:
- Strong experience in data engineering, including building and operating data pipelines
- Good understanding of data modelling and dimensional modelling, using Kimball principles
- Experience with modern data tooling such as Snowflake, ADF, dbt Cloud or equivalent technologies
- Confidence translating business needs into clear technical delivery plans
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum delivery environments
- Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A practical, curious approach to solving problems and improving ways of working
- Experience mentoring, coaching or supporting other engineers
