Lead Data Engineer – MarTech role at Marktplaats. Marktplaats in The Netherlands, and 2dehands and 2ememain in Belgium, are part of Adevinta: a global online classifieds specialist. The three brands are hosted on a multi-tenant platform, operated from our Amsterdam location, and are the top players in the classifieds space throughout the Benelux region.

What you’ll do & Who you are
We are seeking a hands-on and visionary Data Engineering Lead to drive the design, development, and scaling of data infrastructure for our MarTech and Growth domains. The ideal candidate comes from an e-commerce/product, IT or data company with experience in technical coaching and execution, helping the team build and scale high-impact data solutions and collaborate across domains to shape our Customer Data Platform (CDP), campaign automation, and growth optimization strategies.
As the Tech Lead, you will be responsible for hands-on design and implementation of data pipelines, modeling strategies, and integration solutions. You will work closely with the MarTech Engineering Manager and Product Owner, and collaborate across cross-functional stakeholders to align technical decisions with business outcomes.
This is an ideal role for someone who thrives on solving complex data problems, cares deeply about technical excellence, and enjoys mentoring engineers while staying close to the code.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership in designing, building, and maintaining robust and scalable data pipelines.
- Own architectural decisions for the data infrastructure that powers our CDP and marketing data stack, ensuring scalability, quality, and performance.
- Partner with the MarTech Engineering Manager and Product Owner to shape the technical roadmap, contribute to backlog refinement, and ensure timely delivery of products.
- Translate business goals (e.g., audience targeting, personalization, attribution) into scalable data solutions and architecture.
- Mentor and up-skill team members through code reviews, architecture sessions, and knowledge sharing.
- Define and enforce technical standards and best practices around data modeling, orchestration, CI/CD, observability, and performance.
- Partner with ML, Gen AI, and Data teams to integrate real-time personalization, behavioral targeting, and predictive analytics.

- Monitoring & Testing: DataDog, Great Expectations
- CI/CD & Infra as Code: Terraform, GitHub Actions, CloudFormation
- Security & Privacy: PII handling, GDPR/CCPA compliance, data contracts
What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical team lead or staff engineer capacity.
- Demonstrated experience owning data architecture end-to-end — from ingestion to modeling and serving.
- Experience in MarTech/Growth/CRM domains or adtech ecosystems is a major plus.
- Strong collaboration skills; comfortable working across multiple teams and stakeholders including Engineering Manager, Product Owner, and Data leadership.
- Passion for building impactful systems that fuel marketing performance and customer engagement.
