Hands-on Data Engineering Tech Lead role in London (hybrid) at a global retail company: steer the data squad, set standards, and design scalable Python/SQL data pipelines into Snowflake on AWS, while evolving the Enterprise Data Platform and mentoring other engineers.
As Data Engineering Tech Lead, you will steer the technical direction of the data squad while staying hands-on to shape the Enterprise Data Platform. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to design scalable data pipelines and data models that support the company’s data strategy. This role combines leadership with practical engineering, influencing architecture and delivery at scale. You’ll lead by example to elevate standards and foster a data-driven culture. You’ll join a well-funded data journey in a global retail setting.

- Lead the technical direction of the Data Engineering squad and set engineering standards
- Design and build scalable data pipelines using Python, SQL and Snowflake
- Collaborate with Architecture and Engineering to solve complex data problems
- Evolve the Enterprise Data Platform (data modelling, integrations, performance, reliability)
- Work with AWS to move and process data into Snowflake
- Mentor and support other data engineers to raise engineering standards
- Influence platform evolution beyond predefined technical specs
- Strong commercial experience with Python & Snowflake
- Experience mentoring or technically leading other engineers
- Experience with dbt, Airflow or similar data engineering tooling
- Good understanding of data modelling and modern data platform architecture
- Experience with AWS or another major cloud platform
- Ability to translate business problems into technical solutions
- Strong communication skills to explain concepts to non-technical stakeholders
