Lead Data Engineer
Summary
Lead Yorkshire Water's enterprise GIS capability from Leeds: define architecture, standards and roadmaps, own and optimise the ArcGIS ecosystem, and drive large-scale spatial data migrations and automation with FME, Python, and QGIS while mentoring offshore teams and driving cloud-based GIS adoption for the utility.
In this role you shape Yorkshire Water’s GIS capability and drive enterprise-grade geospatial solutions. You will define architecture, standards, and roadmaps, while leading the design, build, and operation of cutting-edge GIS platforms. You’ll own and optimise the ArcGIS ecosystem and manage large-scale data migrations, automation, and cloud adoption. You’ll mentor offshore teams and partner with stakeholders to translate complex needs into impactful GIS outcomes. This is a chance to lead strategic GIS delivery in a mission-driven utility.

- Lead large-scale spatial data migration and transformation projects
- Develop automation and integrations using FME, Python, ArcGIS Toolboxes, and QGIS
- Drive cloud-based GIS adoption for scalable, secure solutions
- Mentor offshore teams and foster high performance
- Collaborate with stakeholders, architects, delivery teams, and vendors
- Extensive experience designing, delivering, and managing enterprise GIS platforms
- Strong expertise with ArcGIS suite: ArcGIS Enterprise, Pro, Server, Online, Portal, Field Maps
- Experience with spatial data migration, ETL using FME or similar tools
- Proficiency in Python, GIS automation, and geospatial development (ArcGIS/QGIS)
- Knowledge of PostGIS and open-source geospatial tech
- Proven leadership to mentor teams and manage offshore/third-party partners
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication
- Experience in Agile and SAFe environments
- Exposure to cloud GIS, DevOps, data engineering or real-time integrations is advantageous
- Knowledge of utilities/infrastructure/asset management is desirable
