Job Description:
Ocuco is seeking an experienced Lead Database Administrator to join our Database Team at our HQ in Dublin 15. This is a hands-on technical and people leadership role, with responsibility for leading a small team while ensuring the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of customer and internal database environments.

As Lead Database Administrator, you will combine strong technical expertise with people leadership, taking responsibility for the day-to-day management and development of team members alongside critical database administration activities. You will oversee database maintenance, performance and recovery activities, support schema and scripting work, and establish consistent best practices through mentoring and knowledge sharing. This is a hybrid role requiring office attendance three days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Team coordination: Lead and coordinate the work of Database Administrators and Data Engineers, working closely with the Operations Director on team priorities, scheduling, resource planning, and workload management.
  • People leadership: Provide day-to-day line management for members of the Database Team, including performance management, development and coaching.
  • Knowledge development: Provide technical guidance and mentoring to the team and take ownership of a structured knowledge-transfer framework to strengthen capability and continuity across the function.
  • Database ownership: Take overall responsibility for customer and internal database requirements, ensuring high standards of reliability, availability, performance and service quality.
  • Database administration: Manage database configuration, maintenance, recovery, preventative maintenance and performance-tuning activities across hosted and remote customer environments.
  • Performance and resilience: Diagnose database performance issues, implement effective solutions, and contribute to database recovery, resilience and capacity planning.
  • Schema and scripting: Maintain database schemas across the product range, including database migration and maintenance scripts.
  • Data management: Write, review and execute SQL, PL/SQL and T-SQL scripts to manipulate, load, extract and transfer data, supported by a strong understanding of database structures and relationships.
  • Technical collaboration: Work closely with Development, Operations and Support teams on database-related requirements, changes and technical issues.
  • Support enablement: Mentor Ocuco Support Engineers and promote consistent application of database best practices across database-related support activities.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing technical team members, including people-management responsibilities.
  • 8+ years’ commercial Oracle DBA experience, covering database design, development and performance, with experience of Oracle 11g or later across Windows and Linux/Unix environments.
  • 5+ years’ experience with Oracle RAC.
  • 5+ years’ experience working within an IT development environment.
  • Excellent SQL and PL/SQL skills.
  • Hands-on experience in Oracle database configuration and administration.
  • Experience working with Azure SQL Database.
  • Strong ability to diagnose database performance issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Experience carrying out preventative database maintenance.
  • Experience using bulk data transfer methods.



Additional Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of Oracle Multimaster Replication.
  • Experience with Oracle Data Guard.
  • Advanced Linux/Unix knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Python and/or Perl.
  • Experience working with cloud or SaaS technologies.
  • Advanced SQL tuning experience.
  • Data modelling experience.
