Lead DevOps Automation Engineer

Summary

Lead DevOps Automation Engineer designs and maintains CI/CD pipelines, automates infrastructure with Python, and deploys containerized workloads using GitHub Actions, Docker, and Terraform.

EPAM is a leading global provider of digital platform engineering and development services. We are committed to having a positive impact on our customers, our employees, and our communities. We embrace a dynamic and inclusive culture. Here you will collaborate with multi-national teams, contribute to a myriad of innovative projects that deliver the most creative and cutting-edge solutions, and have an opportunity to continuously learn and grow. No matter where you are located, you will join a dedicated, creative, and diverse community that will help you discover your fullest potential.

We are searching for a Lead DevOps Automation Engineer with strong, hands-on technical expertise to join our team.

In this position, you will be the key force driving our continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, sophisticated system automation, and automated container workloads. The role places a significant focus on Python development for DevOps and automation. You will architect and refine complex workflows, craft dependable automation scripts, oversee self-hosted runner infrastructure at scale, and roll out automation using containerized technologies and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Merely listing tools on your resume will not suffice - we are looking for a strong engineer with a demonstrated history of using Python as their primary language to automate infrastructure and pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Author, test, and support robust and clean Python scripts and tooling that automate complex infrastructure management, systems administration, and pipeline activities
  • Architect, configure, and maintain advanced GitHub Actions workflows leveraging YAML, context variables, matrix strategies, environment configurations, caching mechanisms, and sophisticated artifact management
  • Set up, secure, and scale self-hosted runners and runner groups within restricted enterprise environments, addressing network and proxy constraints along the way
  • Create and maintain highly reusable workflows through workflow_call, composite actions, and by managing custom action versioning together with the publishing lifecycle
  • Bundle Python-based automation workflows into lightweight, portable containers using Docker or Podman, then version, manage, and deploy these containers to enterprise registries such as Artifactory, Azure Container Registry, or GitHub Packages
  • Make use of serverless and ephemer al virtual environments such as Azure Container Apps or ephemer al GitHub Runners to run, scale, and troubleshoot containerized workloads
  • Uphold CI/CD security best practices, including least-privilege tokens, environment protection rules, CODEOWNERS, signed actions, and action pinning
  • Provision, scale, and manage infrastructure components with Terraform and configuration management tools following an Infrastructure as Code approach

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a comparable field
  • No less than 5 years of hands-on professional experience in DevOps or automation engineering
  • At least 1 year of experience leading and managing teams
  • Advanced Python expertise with a proven history of writing production-grade Python scripts and tools tailored to systems automation, API integrations, and DevOps processes
  • Applied engineering experience in CI/CD with clear delivery evidence using GitHub Actions
  • Demonstrated background configuring, managing, and scaling DevOps tools such as GitHub Actions, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform within production-grade environments
  • Strong command of Docker or Podman container lifecycle, container registries, and deploying workloads onto ephemer al services such as Azure Container Apps or Kubernetes
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, covering TLS, DNS, proxies, and firewalls, along with automated security workflows
  • SRE-oriented mindset with hands-on experience in pipeline telemetry, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performing root cause analysis for automated workloads
  • English at C1 level or higher, with strong written and spoken communication skills
