Role Overview
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will lead the build of key technical projects that keeps Deputy’s production platform reliable, safe and recoverable. In turn, you’ll be progressing our company mission of improving our customers' business productivity, wage compliance and employee satisfaction. You will be a part of the Platform team, looking after the reliability and security aspects of system services and infrastructure.
Working closely with the central Security team and other product & engineering leadership to build foundational and reusable systems, services and architecture.You wake up every morning knowing with confidence that the work you do is being used to power the livelihood of millions of users worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team that builds paved paths to enable other engineering teams to build secure and reliable services.
  • Make technical decisions and own the roadmap across the domains of platform reliability and infrastructure security - observability platform, incident management, cloud & network security, infrastructure vulnerabilities.
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement across reliability (alert hygiene, MTTR, DORA) and security (vulnerability remediation, hardening coverage) outcomes.
  • Uphold a high bar of engineering, quality & security standards - including encryption at rest and in transit for production data, and DR/BCP execution across regions.
  • Collaborate with other parts of the business to discover and estimate solution options to key strategic initiatives.
  • Accountability for delivering technical solutions within estimated timeframes.
  • Operate in a get-things-done, value demonstrating, iterative manner.
  • Influence and problem solve with Sr, Mid and Jr. engineers to deliver high quality outcomes. Your technical leadership and mentorship will be key to driving the squads to successful outcomes.
  • As a key member of the technical leadership team, contribute to driving standards, ways of working and platform decision making.

  • Skills & Experience

  • A skilful engineer with high standards, passion for quality and a few years of experience under your belt. You are a problem solver and are able to tackle highly complex and ambiguous problems, balancing the right tradeoffs in a pragmatic way.
  • Building Resilient Platform Operations: Proven experience establishing a strong platform operations function from the ground up, including authoring comprehensive incident response playbooks, defining SLOs/SLIs, and driving a culture of reliability across product squads.
  • Securing Distributed Cloud Architectures: Deep technical expertise in infrastructure security and site reliability for complex, highly isolated environments, specifically demonstrating hands-on experience securing Kubernetes clusters, implementing network policies for cell-based architectures, and translating InfoSec policies and standards into automated infrastructure guardrails.
  • Experience with SAST & DAST, CI/CD pipelines, and associated security toolings around SDLC (e.g. GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Snyk, etc).
  • Experience with building and testing Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Plans in the cloud (AWS) across multiple regions.
  • Experience with authentication & authorization platforms, CIAM, OAuth2, OpenID, and ensuring high customer security posture.
  • Proven leadership in driving projects from concept to delivery, working cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and engineering teams to align on vision, requirements, and timelines.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in DevSecOps and 2+ years of experience as a lead/staff engineer.
