Lead DevOps Engineer

Open 15d

The role

We are looking for a foundational Lead DevOps to own our cloud platform strategy and build out the DevOps function from the ground up. In this role, you will represent platform engineering in leadership discussions and serve as the escalation point for platform-level decisions.

Our current environment spans Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and AWS. You will tackle significant consolidation on our primary GCP platform, which includes hardening IAM,upgrading CI/CD, and closing security gaps. Simultaneously, you will ensure our active AWSapplication remains secure, stable, and well-supported. You won't just implement; you will set the technical direction, define standards, and drive adoption across our wider engineering organization.

You will also lead and grow the people, hiring and mentoring future DevOps engineers, establishing on-call and incident command structures, and building this into a fully-fledged team as the organization scales.

Responsibility

  • Team Leadership: Define hiring needs, interview future platform engineering hires, and mentor engineers across the organization on cloud and operational best practices.

  • Technical Strategy: Own the multi-year platform roadmap across GCP and AWS, balancing consolidation, security, and new capabilities.

  • Architectural Collaboration: Liaise closely with the Infrastructure Architect to provide practical, operational input on architectural decisions. While the Architect owns the high-level design, you will work in synergy to ensure those designs are feasible, operable, and aligned with team-level execution.

  • Team-Level Decision Making: Act as the primary technical decision-maker for day-to-day DevOps practices, pipeline design, tooling implementation, and team-leveloperational standards.

  • Multi-Cloud Infrastructure: Design, implement, and maintain scalable infrastructure on GCP(GKE, Cloud Run, VPC) and AWS (ECS/EKS, Lambda, VPC).

  • Infrastructure as Code: Build and manage reproducible cloud environments using Terraformor CloudFormation, integrating them into automated deployment pipelines.

  • CI/CD & Containers: Define the CI/CD strategy and deploy Kubernetes clusters usingDocker, Helm, and GitOps workflows.

  • Security & Compliance: Apply cloud security best practices and own the relationship with compliance frameworks like PCI, SOC2 and ISO27001.

  • Reliability: Lead incident response, improve system resilience, and establish on-call structures and escalation paths.

  • Monitoring & Observability: Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging using Grafana,CloudWatch, and GCP Cloud Monitoring; use Elasticsearch or OpenSearch for infra and app-level log investigation; and leverage AWS/GCP-specific network flow logs and audit trails (e.g.VPC Flow Logs, CloudTrail)
