Lead DevOps Engineer

We have partnered with our client in their search for a Lead DevOps Engineer to join a leading financial services organisation on a contract basis.

This opportunity is ideally suited to a highly experienced DevOps professional who can operate independently within a complex enterprise environment, provide technical leadership, and help shape the evolution of the organisation's Engineering Platform strategy. The successful candidate will bring strong DevOps expertise, a consultative mindset, and a proven track record delivering scalable platform solutions within large banking or enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise DevOps and CI/CD platform capabilities.
• Provide technical leadership and strategic direction across DevOps practices, tooling, automation, and engineering standards.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to optimise software delivery pipelines, improve platform reliability, and drive operational excellence.
• Champion DevOps best practices across the wider engineering organisation and contribute to the evolution of the Engineering Platform function.
• Act as a senior technical advisor, influencing platform decisions and providing guidance to stakeholders across multiple teams.
• Support the modernisation and enhancement of existing DevOps tooling and processes within a highly regulated banking environment.
• Foster knowledge sharing and contribute to the wider engineering community through mentoring, collaboration, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills Required

• Strong DevOps engineering experience, ideally gained within large-scale enterprise environments.
• Proven expertise with Jenkins and CI/CD pipeline development and optimisation.
• Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, automation frameworks, release management, and software delivery best practices.
• Experience working within banking or financial services.
• Deep understanding of enterprise-scale infrastructure, automation, platform engineering, and DevOps principles.
• Ability to operate independently and influence technical direction at senior stakeholder level.
• Experience driving engineering best practices and platform adoption across multiple teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with GitHub Actions is highly desirable.

Education & Work Experience

• Minimum 5-8 years' experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Demonstrated experience leading technical initiatives and delivering enterprise DevOps solutions.
• Proven track record operating within large banking or enterprise organisations.
• Experience contributing to engineering communities, Centres of Excellence, technical forums, or industry-led initiatives is highly desirable.
