Description
DILE Solutions is seeking a dependable and experienced Lead Driver to oversee daily transportation operations while serving as a working leader for the driving team. This position is responsible for safely transporting freight, ensuring compliance with all DOT/FMCSA regulations, supporting driver development, and assisting management with daily operational needs.
The Lead Driver provides guidance and support to drivers, promotes a culture of safety and accountability, and helps ensure efficient route execution while maintaining exceptional customer service standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Safely operate commercial motor vehicles in accordance with all DOT, FMCSA, state, and company regulations.
- Lead by example by demonstrating safe driving practices and professional conduct.
- Coordinate and assist with daily driver assignments to ensure timely service.
- Train, mentor, and provide ongoing support to new and existing drivers.
- Monitor driver performance and coach employees on safety, compliance, and operational expectations.
- Conduct and verify pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Ensure Electronic Logging Device (ELD) records, delivery documentation, inspection reports, and other required records are completed accurately and timely.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse personnel, customers, and management regarding route status, delivery updates, and operational concerns.
- Assist in resolving delivery delays, route issues, customer concerns, and service disruptions.
- Perform routine inspections to ensure company vehicles remain clean, organized, and properly maintained.
- Report maintenance issues immediately and coordinate necessary repairs.
- Assist with driver scheduling and route coverage during vacations, absences, or emergency situations.
- Promote compliance with company safety policies and transportation regulations.
- Support management with operational projects and additional duties as assigned.
