Description

As a Lead/Staff Frontend Engineer, you will help shape the technical direction of our frontend engineering while remaining hands-on with development. You will work across product, design, and engineering to build scalable frontend applications and improve the way we develop, test, and deliver them. Own mobile engineering end-to-end: architecture, technology choices, delivery, and production quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop complex frontend applications using modern technologies, including TypeScript, React, and Next.js, with a focus on scalability, maintainability, and user experience.
  • Lead frontend architecture and technical design, including application structure, state management, API integration, component architecture, and frontend performance.
  • Work closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver practical solutions.
  • Define and improve frontend engineering practices covering code quality, testing, accessibility, observability, CI/CD, and developer experience.
  • Drive technical initiatives that improve frontend systems across teams, including shared components, design systems, tooling, and architectural improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership through code and architecture reviews, mentoring, knowledge sharing, and helping engineers make sound technical decisions.

Requirements:

  • Front-End: TypeScript, React, Next.js, HTML, CSS, Storybook, Nx, GraphQL, Vitest/Jest, i18n
  • Others: GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jira, Slack, Teams, Figma. • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with strong experience building and delivering production frontend applications.
  • Strong production experience with React and TypeScript, along with a solid understanding of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and browser fundamentals.
  • Proven experience designing frontend architecture for complex applications, including component architecture, state management, API integration, and maintainable, scalable solutions.
  • Experience optimizing frontend performance and diagnosing issues related to rendering, loading, and responsiveness.
  • Strong understanding of automated testing, CI/CD, and modern frontend engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of technical decisions and lead frontend development for a team, product, or major project.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder-management skills: partnering with product managers, designers, and backend engineers, challenging assumptions constructively, balancing technical and business considerations, and aligning stakeholders on solutions and priorities.
  • Experience with Next.js and modern web application architectures.
  • Experience with design systems and reusable component libraries.
  • Experience with frontend observability and production debugging.
  • Understanding of accessibility and internationalization (i18n/l10n).
  • Experience working with global/distributed engineering teams.
  • Japanese language proficiency and experience collaborating with Japan-based stakeholders. Familiarity with Japanese business culture is an advantage.
  • Technical Leader: Takes ownership of frontend technical decisions and helps the team make better engineering choices.
  • Problem Solver: Comfortable with ambiguity and able to break down complex problems into practical solutions.
  • Strong Collaborator: Works effectively with product, design, backend, and other engineering teams.
  • Hands-on: Leads by example and remains actively involved in solving technical problems and writing code.
  • Multiplier: Helps other engineers grow through mentoring, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Ownership: Proactively identifies problems, drives solutions, and cares about the long-term quality of the product.
